COLLABORATION CASE: Széchenyi University collaborating with Audi Hungary

Across the globe, more and more business are beginning to realize that innovating performs best when collaborating with a partner. There is an enormous development in companies who are searching for academia to collaborate with. Today small attention of Audi Hungary cooperates with Széchenyi István University (SZE).

ABOUT THE COLLABORATION
This collaboration has been one of trust and started in 1999. According to both parties, this is a win-win collaboration and provides opportunities for students to contribute to some practice-oriented learning. Plus they can connect their research results with actual real problems from the industry and the community.  Audi wanted to be active in the cultivating practice-oriented students and cut-edge automotive technology knowledge. Audi obtains university knowledge to keep ahead in the competitive car-industry and in order to meet human needs and demands in the ever-expanding business.

ABOUT THE OUTCOME
The outcomes of this collaboration were and are still not only based on developing new technologies and put those in practice, but there also is a big part of this collaboration that supports Bachelor’s and Master’s research. Both organizations agreed on contract-based research, this allows bachelor and Master students to use the facilities from both institutions. Due to this successfully shared mindset and fruitful collaboration, Audi created several academic staff placements and provides financial support for 5 PhD students.

ABOUT THE BENEFITS
Except for the individual benefits that both parties obtain, this collaboration also formed on a common vision about create a regional and dynamic eco-system. With a supporting regional government and the motto “Future is being built in Györ”, Széchenyi István University (SZE) and Audi attempt to change the Hungarian town Györ into an attractive and competitive place to tackle the brain-drain challenge in the city, with a focus on the automotive career path in Hungary.

ABOUT THE RESEARCH
This research led to the start-up of universitas, this is a non-profit organization with the main goal to streamlining knowledge and technology from the university. A great example of how Audi and Széchenyi István University (SZE) combine their strengths is in a new dual-study program for vehicle engineering. Students get a formal employment contract with Audi Hungary, receive payment for their contribution while at the same moment attending their education, which is also located in the jointly opened faculty.

Although those Universitas gain great success, Széchenyi István University (SZE) is aiming for more; they want to improve their regional impact by the establishment of new higher education and collaboration centre.
